Dell Internal Tool Redesign

Redesigning the Process Asset Library to make document workflows clear, efficient, and usable

What is PAL?

PAL is Dell's Process Asset Library which is an internal tool for managing process documents—templates, training, reports, and governance records. Teams use it to upload, review, and approve critical assets.

Problem

PAL lost direction after team changes

The PAL tool stalled when the original PM-designer left the project. The interface was cluttered and confusing, slowing reviews and creating errors. A new PM asked for support, and I was recommended to take on the redesign.

My Role

Leading the redesign effort

I partnered closely with the PM to understand pain points, then rebuilt PAL using Dell’s design system. Alongside standard patterns, I introduced small enhancements—like radius, drop shadows, and icons—to improve clarity and usability.

Landing page

From Blank to Guided Start

Replaced an empty dropdown with a welcome message, a primary action, and preview cards to orient users.

Main page

Organizing for Clarity

Replaced a cluttered view with a clean table and logical grouping to make scanning easier.

Filter

Simplifying Search

Moved from oversized buttons to a structured side panel with grouped filters.

Approval modal

Guiding Reviews

Reorganized scattered fields into a clear layout with grouped details and a single primary action.

Upload Document View

Making Uploads Easy

Added drag-and-drop, structured fields, and validation for a smoother submission flow.

Current status

Redesign in development with engineering

The redesigned PAL flows have been delivered to the development team and are in active implementation. I continue to collaborate with the PM and engineers to support handoff and ensure design intent is preserved.

Next Step

Iterating and scaling improvements

Before and after launch, the redesign will be iterated on based on incoming user requests and feedback. The updated patterns are also planned to extend beyond PAL, serving as a reference for other internal tools at Dell.
